1924 - Joan was born in Rye, Sussex England.
1936 - Joan left home to attend an Oxford boarding school.
1940 - Joan's first poems were published.
1941 - Joan's first stories were published.
1955 - Joan's husband,Ronald G. Brown died of lung cancer.
1960 - Joan won acclaim for "Black Hearts in Battle","Nighthints
on Nantucket","The Wolves of Willoughby",and "The Wispering Mountains."
1969 - Joan won the Manchester Guardian Award for her quater books in
the "Wolves of Willoughby", and the "Wispering Mountains."
1972 - Joan won the Edgar Allen Poe Award in a juvinile mystery for
"Night Fall."
